Today in our SWiSS classroom, we were very pleased to have with us Dr Prue Wales, the Assistant Professor of the Visual and Performing Arts Group from NIE - as the mentor for our TLLM Ignite2! Drama programme, she was eager to take a sneak peek into our Drama class and have a look at what we had been up to for the term.
Pru had the opportunity to watch our SWiSS drama players in action in a tongue-in-cheek imaginative role-play adaptation of Leonardo DaVinci out on a date with his "girlfriend", Rose, that our students had prepared in anticipation of their DaVinci The Genius exhibition visit @ the Science Centre on Friday.
Let's just say that the "date" went pretty well, and we daresay that DaVinci himself would have been very proud of our students :)
Dr Pru & Mr Raj were very pleasantly surprised by our SWiSS students performances, and were excited by the progress that the students had made in terms of oral fluency and confidence in public speaking, performance readiness and dramatic interpretation of their text, which we feel would undoubtedly help them in their EL comprehension and letter writing (linked to the DaVinci theme for the week) that they would attempt later in class as their written assignment.
Dr Pru was kind enough to speak to the class at the end of the lesson and share with us her feedback based on her observations - she commented that the class was showing a good grasp of textual development in terms of dramatic elements like staging, character, scene setting etc, and was very happy with what she had seen for the 2 periods!
Mr Raj commented that he could see a marked improvement in the fluency and confidence of some students, and he was pleased that everyone, especially the international students, had clearly put in a lot of effort into their performances, and were trying their best to dramatise and vocalise their understanding of the text onto the stage - good job everyone!

With all the preparatory drama work and comprehension passage assignments out of the way, everyone can look forward to the LJ to the DaVinci exhibition on Friday...
